At Ambi Pack, we are happy to give our customers good advice. Sustainability is a hot topic in the market. To respond to the varying questions that emerge in relation to this subject, we established a dedicated project group for ‘sustainable packaging materials’ in December. Four of our specialists are exploring sustainable alternatives to packaging materials. Projects like these enable us to stay up to date with developments in the market and respond accordingly. Preferably before our customers ask the question. This ensures that we can always advise them, even if a fully sustainable alternative is not immediately available.
We are currently doing this mainly in an exploratory phase. For example, we examine the opportunities offered by our suppliers. This includes checking out any sustainable and innovative alternatives to primary packaging. When considering an alternative material, it is important that it has the same specifications as current packaging materials. This refers to aspects such as oxygen permeability and water vapour density. After all, it must allow for the same quality and shelf life of the products, of course. If a material seems suitable based on the specifications, we check if we can process it on our current machinery. If yes, we start the next stage, the testing phase.
We expect a continued increase in demand for more sustainable packaging in the coming years. This will come with the necessary challenges. For instance, there is no direct alternative for each packaging material that is equal in terms of processing properties and quality. But we also see opportunities. There are, for instance, sustainable replacements for materials commonly used in sachets. We are closely monitoring these and other developments. We are happy to assist our customers with any questions.
